Ken Masters, mastering the ken.


Oh lord that hiatus. My face game sucked, so I have done some work on it trying to map out some common landmarks and such and improve a bit. I also started to stream a bit again. Might update with another post later.



Moved a few things around, actually botherd to locate where the neck joint actually is and switched his eye colors to blue. Currently trying to study up on neck muscles but I got side tracked into trying to figure out what actually gives faces thier age differences. So far it seems like the middle line is longer and eyes are further down from it.


So, I hit a landmark in my anatomical studies the other day, basically I manage to figure out how to find the angle of a head through measuring. And I decided to try it out.

Akira Kazama: The redrawing.

I mentioned in another post that I was working on re-hauling the Akira picture. And this is the current state of it. I am currently underway of adding the bike which will be based a bit of the one that you can see Akira driving in the artbook and a Honda VFR 400. The bike have undergone a certain type of modification called Streetfighter modification. I thought that would be a neat meta joke to throw in.

The sneak peak of a drawing and some other stuff.



Oh boy, due to personal stuff I've been forced to take a bit of down time from the blog. But fear not I have used this time to study anatomy by drawing lewds. Yes, lewds. I found out that I responded better to learning anatomy by drawing NSFW stuff since you know, it involves drawing body-parts. 

Now if you are dirty minded as I am and want to see these drawings I have to say: Nah. 
I might refine some of the more "tasteful"ones and post them since I don't actually care that much about how people perceive nudity and just question myself "How can you even take a shower if you are that afraid of the human body?" when these situations arise.  However I may not be smart, but I am not stupid enough to not understand when stuff is not appropriate to share.

Also If you, the reader, are concerned about me leaning to much towards anime/manga style as of lately. I've explained why in this entry: the-missing-uppdate
And playing around with this for a while and consulting the books of one my current deities Loomis (Ernst Kirsteiger and Gordon Ramsay sits in the same pantheon just to give you a taste of who sits there). I've think I've figured out how to achieve that volume feeling that I am currently striving for. Basically painting and drawing consist of breaking down everything and make it as simple as possible and to do that we need to realize what the deciding rule is so we can bend it to our advantage. That rule is the paper itself, a flat thin surface regardless if you are painting digitally or in real life. The surface is always going to be flat.

Now when we now that, how can we use it to our advantage?
My current answer to this is since this is a flat surface, perspective and form becomes the most important tools that we can use to cheat this system as we can use just a simple line to illustrate a direction, therefore the lines must be placed carefully. I can evolve on this further another time.

Oh! The image is a sneak peak to a Halloween themed request someone made in a drawthread, so that's the reason why I cropped it.
And the Akira picture is getting a massive overhaul.

Bog Witch


Not that much work on this today was occupied with work on another thing and I also studied braids a bit. So now I can braid hair, neat.




Changed layout and added areas and planning an eye route.

Girl with a bat.

All right here we go, I am currently sorting out the perspective of the background and finishing that off. This is a big image dump and I am going to try explain what has happened between all stages.
This is still going to be read down to up like the other post.



I actually think I am going to call it done now.



Background work mostly. I think I manage to get some "dividers" in to make her seem less giant. Next on the list it to fix those cool looking Frisbee looking bike tires and those pillars.



Background work, currently trying to cheat a bit so she doesn't look like a giant.



I am not to fond of how the trees are turning out currently, but well see how it goes. Sorting the perspective out and adding things to the background.


Same deal really.


Redrew her arm and started on the background, I am aiming to keep that simple. I also colored the buttons on the dress to make them stick out more.


Redrew her head and cut the fringe a bit as I saw it did not work as well as I wanted with it covering the top of her eyelids.


At this part I felt something was not working out, I really liked the whole chipmunk appearance but the head really put me off. Added a yellow stripe to her dress to lift out the volume of it.


Added a few accessories to her, the hair bun was added to put even more empathize on the soft appearance. This is done to make the bat stick out.


At this stage I started to play around with her hair and decided to keep it in the same mood as the rest of here character: very soft. However, I started to get trouble with the eyes so I took a break to study them and experimented with different colors.


I actually started this one out doodling and putting down color to see how fast I could get a decent sketch out. So the big shapes of colors was decided very early.

The missing update.

You can call it vacation if you want. However I felt I ran into a block and to combat that block I put aside time to study up on stuff. And during this period I got more and more impressed with certain Japanese illustrators and animators due to how little they could use to portray volume and I started to see a correlation between certain shapes and the portrayal of volume.
Initially I started studying anatomy to work on my line confidence so I could transfer the same school of thought over to my brushwork since I figured that confidence stems from knowing (or telling yourself you know).

A lot of the stuff was on paper which I probably won't scan in.

Here are some stuff, I might update with more.

 Currently working on this one. Started out with me just wanting to see If I could draw some cute in contrast to the depressing knights.


I did some poses of Chun-Li as a warm up. And decided to push it a little. I am going to finish this one.


This is mostly a try to transfer over some of the ideas from line art into brushwork.

That's it for now, I am slowly starting up this machine again after this "vacation" expect more posts of varying quality.

Twitchstreaming.

Tried out some twitch streaming today. It was quite enjoyable actually. My main goal was to work on the boobplate picture. I have put it aside for a long time now but I feel like it's time to get it done.
I did side track a bit and ended up doodling something I will probably work more on in the future.

Makoto


Fixed her hair a bit, thinking of adding a bag in her hand. I am going to work on it a bit more then I am calling it.


Redrew a few lines and fixed some colors, added shadow for weight and redid the head and anatomy so she would actually look like Makoto. Having some trouble with the hair because most pictures I find and the way you draw the "tomboy" hair is not clicking with me.


Makoto from street fighter. Trying some stuff out and it seems to be working.


I am going to try using this post as a testing ground for dumping sketches that are attached to the current work at the bottom of the post. So if this layout doesn't work I will probably not use it anymore.


From watching the typical tomboy haircut variations I can find it seems like this is the way I should think when It comes to drawing it. Makoto's hair is layerd ontop of smaller bundles of hair because the general idea seems to be "pull the hair out and slice it off".

Boobplate part Duex





I did not get as much work done as I wanted on this piece this weekend. And I ended up redrawing a few parts after some measurements. I am largely considering switching the layout of the image to sort it up much better.


I am having way to much fun with this design than I should have. I'll probably take the weekend and finish this one up. If you are wondering "why the garter belt?", that's because it's actually based of the Cuisses. And I decided to give her a ZR. The underwear is a kind of girdle.
As I am writing this, I notice the lenght of the legs, I will look over that.



We are back with the boobplate, adding more details and fixing lines and hands. And before you say anything, Yes. I am fully aware of it.
