Void Bolt Sketch

Slow day didn't draw that much and I didn't feel like working on the Zero Suit.
That said, I have for a longer period had a thought about the visual representation of shadow bolts of how it would work. Instead of illuminating everything with glowy magic it would instead cast a shadow and it would feel dense, however it would also be a "thing". But a void bolt, is nothing. A concentrated  ball of nothing, and for me it made sense to just make it a black ball, specifically at RGB 0,0,0, as (this is going to sound weird) black does not exists in real life.

So a lesson for all you doing value studies out there, don't use black.

Zero Suit Update.

Soon done. Have work tomorrow, will try finish it up when I get back.
Small tip, open image in new tab/window to see full size.

Added some thoughts on the material. I looked more close on he newest appearance in smash and saw they had almost same line of thought with the material on the suit. And now, some head canon stuff: Samus does not use this suit for infiltration, this is more of the pilotsuit for "driving" the power armor. If cornered with stealth, I think the exolayer would more fill out that purpose.

First post of new year. I re did almost everything and cleaned up. Her face now is more Prime 3 and Smash oriented. The bun on her back allows Samus to still keep a longer hair outside of the helmet and the fringe cut is basically taken from her Brawl model. I found that hair cut to be better suited for her visor.

Suit is supposed to be skintight and the material inbetween is somesort of fiber to break up the cyan/grey zero suit and be a nice bridge to the suit. (Which you already might know I am also working on)

This redesign is not meant to be "This is how it is" but it's based on a lot of stuff I have dug up from interviews, concept art, notes, log books and most importantly of all, the games themself. I must admit I am staying away from other M. But they have some cool ideas which I am using.

All right still belongs to Nintendo.

More Metroid ideas.

Continuing on the modular path that I started with the powergrip upgrade. I moved the speed boost powerup from the suits back thrusters and placed the boost "module" on her thighs, taking use and transforming the legarmor Samus get from the varia into the main componet of the Speedbooster.

I am also thinking up a way to demonstrate how Shinesparking works, I figured that parts of her armor is actually working together to create these "secret" moves. At the moment, what Samus needs to do the shinespark is a Jump module outfitted in her thrusters (normally Hi-jump boots). When running and getting to high enough speed, she stores the kinetic energy, transferring it to the thrusters.

So in short: Jump boost + Speed boost = Shinespark.

Metroid sketching.

It's a sidetrack for the "redesign" of the Zero Suit. But basically I am trying capture some of the ideas from the concept art. The Power Grip from Zero Mission let's Samus cling and climb up ledges in her powersuit, to me that implies that the suit has a built in exoskeleton and the power grip adds more "unf" to it. And I felt it made more sense when I sketched on it since it adds to that ambiguous but very distinctive Silhouette Samus has when she is wearing the power suit.

End word. Nintendo, please don't sue. I just like Metroid.

Samus Zero Suit Redesign

Off to work, can't do that much on this because of it.

Jumping on the band wagon of redesigning the famous Zero suit from the Metroid series.
Now to be clear, I actually like the zero suit as it is, my favorite version is the one from Prime 3 Brawl actually.

I will write a longer thought process later once I am done.

Project Triglove: Park Level

A little environment design for a level that Ajax is punching his way trough. I am going with the (broad term) anime style since I've grown up with them and I have learned a lot by picking them apart.

Fixing up Ajax

Update 2: Slow and steady progress, For you who are wondering why I am taking so long to do a few lines. Well short version is that I was stupid and painted everything in the same layer at first. So I am slowly and steady redrawing this in my spare time.

Update 1: Fixed a few things on Ajax with the little time I had to spare today. Related to the blog, I need to take some time to sort out the portfolio and add a sort of archive for images not in it. And I really need to fix some broken links.

I showed Ajax to a friend and some design trouble I had got solved, fixing him up.
