And here we go, it is done. I take a lot of valuable lessons from this one, like always double check the file if nothing is wrong with it.
This session of Pokégirls is done and that doesn't mean that I won't draw anymore of them. Just that I reached a goal I set out to do and that feels good (It does) and when I get around to it again Dawn will next (Or maybe a special someone is?) just need to decide which outfit, for Crystal it will be both Kris and Lyra and I guess that leaves Leaf and the new girl(Moon?) for last. Anyway regular posting will start again with other pieces. I didn't want to post anything new since it would have bumped this of the frontpage.
Next update will probably be the last one.
Work is progressing rather slow due to the merge all mistake I made but I have slogged through most part and can now say I have finally reached the fixing stage. So If everything goes as it should, then I will be done tomorrow.
Here is another sketch as compensation: http://i.imgur.com/ieohfik.jpg
A technical mistake set me back, I somehow managed miss a short command that merged all layer and saved the image. And I also missed that I had done this when I updated the backup.
I managed to salvage Rosa and Snivy by cutting them out. But I had to redo most if not all of the background, still I was going to redo it anyhow so it was not all bad.
For the restoration of the lines I figured that I just simply fill out on a new layer. End result is going to be merged anyhow so I don't think It will affect the outcome that much, still it was an annoying mistake on my part.
So here is one more apology sketch: http://i.imgur.com/UqTCdTC.jpg
This is taking longer than I want, but I stopped a bit and studied shoes and feet
Might I use this sketch serve as a sort of apology for these delays?
Leaving the background for last which will be pretty soon, minor tweaks left.
I think she is ready for tweaking now.
Well, I did not get that lucky as I hoped. It went into my ears and I had to wait it out. While having downtime because of that I corrected some faults and looked into what I did wrong doing them.
However, it feels like I can pick up the pace again now.
I think I got lucky and managed to get a bit better with the sickness, So final stretch is coming up. The down time I've been having have been half devote to solving crosswords and looking into some drawing techniques like shading with a pencil.
I try to not blame anything as I don't like excuses, but this time I got hit with what I hope is not ottitis(?) and it really bled into my ability to concentrate.
Slow and steady wins the race.
Had to redo the hips which in turn led me into a experiment phase of trying to use circles in photoshop to make 90 degree angles. Went so and so, the idea works on paper but I am drawing blanks when I try to implement it in photoshop.
Hat
Well, I was going to post the progress a few days ago when I had this overwhelming feeling that it was not right. And that led me to completely look over how I drew anime heads and found out many things that did not work out at all. Still not completely fine with her face, but believe me when I say; This is better than what I was going to post a few days ago.
Well, work has started on Rosa, so don't be worried.
Done, next up Rosa.
Soon done, looking over lines.
I did not get as much done as I wanted and at the same time I got a few things done which made it better. So as you can see now I am close to calling it done.
Fairly happy with face now, time for clean up and minor fixes.
I feel like I can start adjusting minor things now.
Well, I saw the face and thought "No, this is not ok" It is still far from ok but I am getting there. Colors look very wet at the moment but I am going leave them for absolute last for now her face is on the top of my list.
Positive note is that I fixed her hat and have started to document the stuff I do wrong so I can get a proper workflow up, this is not working at all.
Small tweak turned into a full redraw of the face and now hat is way out of order. But the pose is more dynamic once I changed the arm, so I got something going out of it at least.
Entering final stretch. Sort out colors and such.
edit1: I saw that her right arm looked more appealing in the earlier stages. Adjusting the current arm to look more like it did there.
A lot of fixes and tweaks
Feel like I can go into tweaking stage now, minor details that needs to be sorted out and cleaned up.
Didn't feel like working on the Ken picture at all so I worked on Serena instead and got very far again so I am considering finishing this one instead of Ken. Not that happy with the background colors.
Well, I started to doodle on Serena with everything I have learned and it went way to fast, mostly because I had a clear idea that I wanted a Smug Fennekin and a City reminiscent background.
Rosa on the other hand is also pretty far, but I am not that clear of what Background colors to use with her yet so Serena will be getting top priority after I am done with Ken.
And calling it done. Might take a small brake on the pokegirls and finish up that old Ken picture, I opened it the other day and saw how I could complete it.
Feels ok to jump into tweaking stage now.
Inching closer to the tweak stage.
Some progress is still progress.
Had to pause this image for a bit and focus on another drawing which ended up giving my a revelation about faces, namely that foreheads are almost always 1/3 of the face. So I had to test that statement and it ended up being a missing piece in a long puzzle. Thanks Loomis.
Had some study time and forgot the proportions a bit. But I am back on track with this one.
Got some work done on May and actually got pretty far. Might be able to finish this one soon as well. However, I currently have two gripes: The color and her thighs. I will probably look over the color closer to the end and for the thighs, I am leaning towards shrinking them just a little bit like 1/3.
And there we go, mistakes are for free! I will gather everything that is done in their own post.
Final tweaks, looking over lines, like that unfinished boot down there.
And the next image in line, this will hopefully not take as long as Hilda since I manage to straighten out a lot of workflow in the end.
Final stretch. Going to leave the background fairly simple.
Having some hardware problem, but I looked over her head, hands and cleaned it up a bit. Slow and steady.
Well, I saw some faults in my way of drawing legs, so when I looked it up to fix it i found out that I for some reason drew them to short (5+5) when in reality they are (6+6). I think this is because I was aware of how Yoshida drew the under-legs one palm longer so it ended up being (6+7) then I subconsciously shorten the ones I drew.
After I figured that out, the legs I drew head on looked as they should, but when I returned to draw the legs on her I noticed that I drew them to short, that problem got solved faster because I realized that since she is positioned towards us with a slight angle and when she reaches out her leg, the knee cap will be closer to us than her right shoulder. I solved this by drawing the skeleton top down.
And if that is not enough, my new knowledge of legs and space exposed faults in how I drew hips. So I had to go back to my notes and look them over for what I did wrong. The solution was that I had not taken the difference of how the illobital tract worked on female hips + legs compared to male hips.
Back to drawing. I'll probably fix the spelling errors of this update when I am not this tired.
I have been studying and trying to figure out almost everything related to arms and trying out a system to easily calculate foreshortening with the measure system I am using to construct. This one is currently my focus of getting done and it is not that much left on this!
And the update with Hilda, had to redo her arm and I am now studying shoulder blades and back muscles so I can get the armpit right. Also redrawing the Oshawott a bit so he flows better with the movement. I got one more pokegirl in the making and it is Dawn, but it is so early in the process I have not even decided what outfit yet, so don't really expect me to get around drawing it.
Also, the Akira picture, it is coming. I am mostly drawing these pokegirls because I wanted to do a test run of some stuff that I learned.
I had to move the bag to the other shoulder and I justify it by telling myself it is a bag, it is not in a fixed place as a skirt or shirt.
Again with the legs, just so you know I am fully aware of it, it is just that I am in this position where I can play around with it.
Working with her arm.
This one on the other hand. I feel it might be better to take the size of the thighs down a notch, but still keep it above average.
I did a test to add a Pokemon, and I do like it. Problem (or not, really) is that It brings a lot more attention towards her thighs. But as of now, I don't really want to change that.
Update on one of the Pokegirls, I think I managed to wrap my mind around how to think when drawing heads. Might add a pokemon to this, but that means I have to add to everyone. I'll think about it.
Small update on my state of business and why I have been quiet for a while. Got my hands on some lectures from Vilppu and used his lessons to complement my previous training. And I am starting to feel confident to get the ball rolling again.
